A Short Profile of Dr. James.

Dr. James Zachariah Pulimuttil is award-winning, experienced surgeon with 35 years of commitment to providing the highest quality surgical care. His surgical career began in 1986 at the Christian Medical Colleges in Vellore and Ludhiana, India. He earned his Master's degree in General Surgery and was selected to be a faculty member at CMCH Ludhiana, training future surgeons. Later, for several years, he held key positions in various Indian hospitals, including Head of General and Laparoscopic Surgery at CARE Hospital, India, where he established and led the surgery department for six years.

In 2014, Dr. Zachariah moved to Dubai, bringing his expertise to patients in the region. He has been working for over a decade at a well-known JCI-accredited hospital, where he also served as the Head of the Department of General and Laparoscopic Surgery.

Dr. Zachariah trained in laparoscopic surgery in 2002 and later earned his FMAS (Laparoscopic Surgery) fellowship in 2007. He became a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (USA) in 2010 and continued to enrich his qualifications with ATLS certification for Trauma Care (2012), GI endoscopy training (2013), and a Colorectal Fellowship (2014) under ACRSI.

Dr. Zachariah completed a structured Fellowship in Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery in 2015 under the renowned Prof. Wei-Jei Lee, at the Asia Pacific Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Center (Taiwan). He also earned the cherished AWARD - 'Outstanding International Bariatric Fellow 2015' for his exceptional clinical and research work in Taiwan. He is trained in the "hidden scar" technique (reduced ports) in bariatric surgery under Prof. W.J. Lee. Later, in 2022, he also received certified training in Endo-bariatric Surgery (endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty) under Prof. Manuel Galva Neto.

Dr. Zachariah's surgical skills and specializations are diverse and comprehensive. He is proficient in bariatric surgeries (sleeve gastrectomy, laparoscopic mini-gastric bypass, RNY bypass, and revisions), advanced laparoscopic surgeries, hernia surgeries, thyroid surgeries, and colorectal (including proctology) surgeries. He is also adept at managing surgical infections and emergencies and frequently assists his peers in high-risk, multidisciplinary cases.

In addition to numerous open surgeries, Dr. Zachariah has performed thousands of laparoscopic procedures, including bariatric procedures, with complete success and very low complication rates. His research contributions include multiple publications as both the main and co-author in high-impact international bariatric surgical journals with about 140 citations. He has also presented his work at several regional and international surgical conferences.

Dr. Zachariah speaks several languages with a diverse clientele in Dubai. He emphasizes a transparent, personal approach and evidence-based surgical care, ensuring excellent patient outcomes and experiences. His work has consistently received high praise and testimonials from both patients and colleagues. In his free time, Dr. Zachariah enjoys painting, writing, playing the guitar, and public speaking.
